About Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf
Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf stretches from the eastern Mitte to western Spandau, and from northern Reinickendorf to southern Steglitz-Zehlendorf.
These boroughs encompass the west side of Berlin's city center. As the name implies, this area covers Charlottenburg and Wilmersdorf but also includes the Halensee district of the city interior.
This section of Berlin encapsulated the center of West Berlin from World War II till 1989 when the dividing wall was razed and Germany unified again. The Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church stood as the most prominent landmark inside. Other points of interest include Kurfürstendamm and Bahnhof Zoo, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Berlin Institute of Technology (Technische Universität Berlin), the Berlin University of the Arts (Universität der Künste), the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung), and the Charlottenburg Palace and the Olympic Stadium.
